NaNoWriMo – Week Four – Home Stretch

word_countI don’t have much to say this week as we enter the last three precious days of the month. All of my words have been eaten by NaNoWriMo and it’s beginning to take a bit of a toll on my mind. I’m exhausted. On the plus side, my typing fingers have never been faster and stronger than they have this month and despite the work load I’ve managed to keep my grades in all my classes amongst the A’s.

So, what are your word counts like?

I know so many of you have already given up to stress and the surmounting pressure of the words you haven’t written. Others of you I have watched as you joyously ripped across the last meter of this marathon and crumpled as soon as you broke the ribbon. Congratulations on completing. I’m in the middle of the chaos, ahead of the NaNoWriMo calendar, watching my fellow writer’s exhale proclamations of joy or defeat. Tonight I’ll be amongst those who whisper in joyous triumph. Despite the numerous setbacks, defeats, and the buckets of tears, I’ve almost made it. I’m just 1.3k away from the finish line.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Week 3 – Keeping Ahead of the Curve

We’ve entered the final stretch of the NaNoWriMo month, only eight more days left to complete and validate our word counts. So many have already finished, some of us are only a few thousand away and others of us are still stuck in the middle. No matter where you are give yourself a quick pat on the back and a treat.  You’ve made it this far, finish strong no matter the word count you achieve.

For each of us the past three weeks have brought troubles, writer’s block and disobedient characters wanting to write their own stories. We have banged our heads on our desks in frustration and threatened to set our stories on fire but we have persevered.

Wow.

I just made it sound like making it this far has been the most difficult challenge anyone would ever endeavor. I imagine that for some of us it is. So congratulations on holding on to at least part of your sanity.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – The Halfway Mark

We are halfway through NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), a international event whee thousands of writers try to pound out 50,000 words in 30 days. I know, we’re a bit crazy and we’re probably all going to need rehab for the amount of caffeine that we’ve consumed so far. Oops! But we’ve reached the halfway point and we’re all still hanging on despite some setbacks and writer’s block this week.

For many of us, if we haven’t already hit some road blocks within the past week we’re about to hit some as we struggle to up the tension in our stories and keep it interesting (*clears throat* If you’re a short story writer and you know exactly what I mean, please raise your hand. We are not alone and we will make it!). Some of us are only a few thousand in (Congratulations on getting started, it’s much more than most people do.),  some of us are dancing around the halfway mark at about 25k, and a handful have already completed this challenge (How? O teach us your ways!).

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Day 11

coffee

The most realistic quote for this entire endeavor.

I’m back guys and I surpassed my word count goal for the first time this week!

Wow!

I’m so exhausted now but I’m so happy to be back and into the flow of writing.  Writing has been hard these past few days as tensions in our nation built and drama exploded amongst some of my friends but it’s settling down a bit and I’ve finally been able to release myself to write again.

I can’t believe I’m halfway there! Whoa. Just a little over 25k.

If I’m completely honest, when I first started this novel I wasn’t even sure if I had enough of a vague story idea to even write 10k much less 25k with still so many words to say.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Day 9

I’m back, my groove is back and the fog from the past few days has lifted.

I decided to stop myself right before I hit my word count goal for today, because it’s been a couple of heavy days and I need time to get back into my story, to hear my characters and to feel it’s heartbeat.

I also stopped because I’m exhausted. The election was draining, trying to talk my friends out of panic attacks and suicide attempts was hard and I haven’t slept really well in a while.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Day 7

Today is a new day and the beginning of a new week so let’s set some goals. At least 15k more words written or about 30 to 32k should be my word count next Sunday night.  It’s also a Monday which means I’ll be nursing a headache, balancing music notes and wishing I didn’t procrastinate so much this weekend, let’s not hope for too much just yet.

One thing I have learned this past week is to always start my writing sessions with prayer.  Whether just a few paragraphs or a few chapters, it always helps the process to go a million times smoother when you ask for God’s guidance and patience before you begin.

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Week 1 – Summary & Motivation

Hey Guys!

I’m just going to combine the recap for our first week of NaNoWriMo with my day six word count stats (bottom of the post).  Grab a cup of water and hydrate your self as you read, I have a bit to say and I also care for your health.

First of all, I believe we all deserve rounds of applause and pats on the back for how far we’ve come, whether that’s 10 words or we’ve already nearly hit the finished line with 50k (I wish).

Why?
