I’ve got a new story in the works, up on Wattpad and on Tumblr called To Be A Hero.
I was challenged by a friend and fellow writeblr (@gingerly-writing) – a writer on tumblr to write a superhero story, something completely out of my comfort zone. I’ve only kind of started stepping into the whole superhero thing in general a couple months ago with No Capes on Wattpad and the release of Dr. Strange (My all time favorite male actor: Benedict Cumberbatch. Whoop!).
So, after about a week and a half (maybe even more) of hem-hawing I wrote the first chapter of a superhero story.
I’m writing actively again!
In a previous post, I talked about life and writing. The post was riddled with self doubt, sadness, and writer’s block. Now two weeks later I’ve got a new writing project under way, and dearly loved, while I’m taking a break from regular writing stuff.
This has been posted on my website, writing blog and tumblr.
A lot has been going on for me lately; personally, academically, online and mentally.
Those of you who know me from Wattpad know that I posted a new short story collection on Wattpad, then took it down two days later. You may have also noticed that I also took down almost the rest of my stories leaving two still posted. You also realize that on March 1rst I was supposed to reveal the chapter of my NaNoWriMo novel: We Fall Down, it didn’t happened.
Disclaimer: Some parts of this post are cross posted both here, on my writing blog, and on my tumblr. Self love is different for every person, just as it will be for each of your characters. This is a brief post, as such I am brief in my descriptions and reasoning. I may expand at a later point. There are also two kind-of-almost swear words in here, so…
I often see self love romanticized and of all the things writers tend to romanticize, this one upsets me the most because it can make people who struggle with self love feel worse. It’s damaging and harmful to your audience, in this case I recommend you do valiant research if you don’t struggle with or understand self love.
It’s been a little while since I’ve chatted with y’all on this blog and I decided it’s time to take a quick moment to update y’all on my current work in progress and just life in general.
I’m sure the are a whole slew of other things that I’ve done this past month, but I’m just writing down the most important of them on the subject of writing.
I did the Caffeine Challenge this afternoon! The Caffeine Challenge is a one hour writing warm up hosted by caffeinewitchcraft on tumblr. Basically we’re given a prompt and then we all have to write for an hour.
I was inspired by one of the prompts that I was sure I could fit into my NaNoWriMo WIP that I am almost finished with. Please note that this is unedited, written in 60 minutes and when I’m writing a first draft I sometimes just put notes directly into the story, if you notice it, don’t worry it won’t be there once it’s edited. So, yes, it’s cringy but whatever: enjoy the story sneak peak.
“You gave up your right a long time ago, Jake,” Her voice sank lower, clouded with anger and frustration. “Don’t make me kill you too, because I won’t hesitate.”
She could hear him swallow, hard but he played it off, raising his hands in front of himself, as if warding off her attacks. “It wasn’t my fault,” He repeated the mantra of lies she’d heard too many times over the years and despise crawled up her throat and curled her lips. How could I have been so stupid as to begin to trust him again. “It wasn’t my fault.” He whispered it this time at her back as she turned to trail the procession until they reached their an area where she could get a clean shot without getting caught.
Can’t wait to release this piece to Wattpad this march!
